No Jail for Man Charged with Child Pornography

Mar 17, 2017 by Mike McKneely in Criminal Defense, Sex Crimes

Being charged with a sex crime in California is a serious matter and it is imperative to reach out to a qualified criminal defense attorney, who has considerable experience handling sexual offenses. For example, a young man who had been struggling with a severe pornography addiction wound up charged with possessing child pornography when federal authorities discovered a few deleted images on his hard drive.

While this would be a dire situation for anyone, he had the added problem of already being labeled a sex offender due to a prior incident in his youth involving exposing himself. As a result, the prosecution wanted to pursue a prison sentence of up to six years. With the seriousness of the charge against him, the man needed equally serious legal counsel from a Fresno sex crimes attorney and retained Michael McKneely.

Attorney McKneely did not want to see his client’s freedom unnecessarily taken away by this transgression and began crafting his defense. By advocating for his client and highlighting his sincere efforts to control his compulsion through therapy and treatment, attorney McKneely negotiated for a drastically reduced outcome. In the end, his client’s sentence included probation and a work-related community service program, but he would not spend any time behind bars, which was a remarkable result and may not have been attainable without capable legal intervention.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
