Child Pornography Charges Dismissed for Juvenile Client
Sep 08, 2017 by Criminal Defense, Sex Crimes inChild pornography is a serious offense that typically results in considerable jail time and lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Attorney Michael McKneely recently assisted a 15-year-old juvenile client after he was arrested for watching child pornography. He was a part of Operation Playpen, a sting conducted across the United States conducted by the FBI. If convicted, this young man faced the possibility of being sentenced to the Division of Juvenile Facilities for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which is effectively a juvenile state prison. He would also be registered as a sex offender for life.
His family helped him receive counseling before the charges were filed and because of their intervention and McKneely’s passionate advocacy, the juvenile judge suspended proceedings against him. As a result, he only needs to complete “informal probation”, which includes continued counseling and community service. Once he completes the terms set forth, the incident will be removed from his record, as though he was never charged.
The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
